I’m Josh Young, a
Saxophonist
I’m a saxophonist, arranger, educator and passionate performer with experience in big bands, orchestras, and solo performance. I’ve worked across jazz, classical, and contemporary music since studying Music Performance at the University of Huddersfield.
About Me
I have been passionate about the intricasies of music since I was 16, where I began having formal saxophone lessons after playing piano casually since I was young. I truly took woodwind seriously when I started my Undergraduate in 2023.
I use music as a means to connect people, either through joint musicianship or performance to a crowd, I believe every song and every performance has something to say, with an emotion to be shared. Shared experience is the basis of music making.
I play with The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment on baritone saxophone, where I do marches, wind orchestra gigs, and saxophone quartet engagements.
I teach saxophone, clarinet, flute and piano alongside music theory. My passion for this lies in my underlying belief that anybody and everybody can achieve their musical dreams if they have a solid teacher with a solid foundation.
Performance Experience
Since studying Music Performance at the University of Huddersfield, I have been an active saxophonist across a wide range of genres. From big band jazz to solo contemporary recitals, I have a breadth of experience.
My specific passions lie in contemporary repertoire and big band tenor saxophone, where I am an avid improviser and section leader for numerous big bands.
I have been a woodwind doubler for theatre pit bands as well as symphonic wind orchestras on both clarinet and flute.
I have been incredibly honoured to play with bands such as GT Big Band, The Managers Big Band, Manhattan Sound and the SL Big Band, either as frequent dep work or as a permanent position.
